University of Central England 177-8 (50) vs. Cambridge University 181-3(35)
Crusaders notched up the first BUSA win in a comfy win over UCE on Sunday despite the late loss of skipper Miles Tufft to a poor grasp of Spanish and lack of a map to the airport. Travelling through an apocalyptical rainstorm on the way up, it turns out the game was being played in the ‘eye of the storm’ and hence, the ground was bone dry. Nonetheless, Probert was well prepared with skin-tight leggings that only Benny Turner’s school-age girlfriend could match.
UCE’s openers suffered at the hands of Ed Owen’s barrage of long-hops, choosing to get themselves out rather than face the embarrassment of scoring runs so cheaply. Despite this, UCE’s skipper built a solid 50 before the tail capitulated to Ash Pattani and Rich Hollamby’s impressive second spell. Cambridge then eased to the target with 15 overs to spare after Ben Smith and Alex-the-last-minute-call-up made a solid century opening stand scoring 65 and 40 respectively. O’Driscoll then tucked into the tripe, blasting 56* in under 30 deliveries. Furious after being stuck at the non-striker’s end while Liam helped himself to easy runs, Andy Jones then hit the beer hard during the post-match drink, downing pennied pint, penny and all. We are all waiting to find which way the penny comes out……
